内布拉斯加家具卖场

要点: 布兰金在1998年8月辞世,享年104岁。布兰金在44岁时,以500美元创办了内布拉斯加家具卖场,并且在1983年89岁时用5500万美元的价格,把公司80%股权卖给巴菲特。到了2001年,内布拉斯加家具卖场占地77英亩,有1500位员工,每年销售家具、地板覆盖物与家电的金额,超过3.65亿美元。布兰金夫人终身都是文盲。

布兰金夫人的经营原则:

一、顾客永远摆第一

只要对顾客开诚布公,能够满足顾客需求,就能让顾客变成常客。只要一发生错误就要立即改正,让事情回归正轨,顾客会记得你所做的一切。

二、把所有时间贡献给顾客

花时间与顾客谈话、找出顾客需求、深入了解顾客的偏好,比什么事情都重要,把这些事情当作自己的优先要务。

三、对顾客无益的事,绝对不要花半毛钱

追踪支出的状况,不要花任何一毛钱在那些不能为顾客带来好处的事物上。对顾客有益的事物就像是:更低廉的价格、更好的服务,以及更多的选择等。

四、省下的钱要回馈给顾客

把经常性支出压得比竞争对手低,提供比竞争对手价格更低廉的产品和更优质的服务,让对手望尘莫及。

五、绝不举债

扩展业务要靠自有财源,无论如何都不要举债

“便宜卖、老实说。只有当你一生都诚实待人(不论是50年或60年),没有人对你不满,而且自己也对自己很满意的时候,才能称得上是成功又幸福。我之所以能够成功,就是因为我对顾客诚实。我跟顾客说实话,提供顾客优惠的价格,而且只要一发生错误,我就会改正。”

Rose Blumkin

Nebraska Furniture Mart

Main Idea:  Rose Blumkin dies in August 1998. Before her death at the age of 104. she founded the Nebraska Furniture Market (with $500 in start-up capital) at age 44 and sold the 80 percent of the business to Warren Buffett in 1983 for $55 million when 89 years old. Today, Nebraska Furniture Market occupies and owns 77 acres of land, employs 1,500 people and sells in excess of $365 million of furniture, floor coverings, electronics and appliances every year. Blumkin never learned how to read or write.

Rose Blumkin's key business principles:

***Put the customer first

Give them what they want honestly and openly, and they'll keep coming back. And if anything does go wrong, make them whole again. They will remember the way you act.

***Spend 100 percent of your time with customers

Nothing is more important than spending your time talking to customers, finding out their needs and becoming immersed in their preferences. Make this your top priority.

*** Don't spend on anything unless it's benefitting customers

Track your expenses and never buy anything unless it will generate some benefit for the customer---cheaper prices, better sevice, more options and so forth.

***Pass on your saving to the customer

Keep your overheads lower than your competitors, and offer your products and services cheaper than they can match.

***Don't take on any debt

Fund your own business growth. Don't take on any debt of any kind at any time.

"Sell cheap and tell the truth. The only way you're successful and happy is when you do an honest life---across 50 years, 60 years---nobody's mad at you, and you're feeling good. The reason for my success is that I was honest with the customers. I told them the truth. I sold cheap. And if anything was wrong, I made it right."
