据说夜总会是由美国百老汇歌会演变而来的，起初为上层名流交际休闲场所，直到七十年代末逐步演变为现在的夜总会。也有人打趣说，夜总会是外国人夜里开会开出来的，外国人有事要商议，一到晚上，把大家招集在一起，打开电灯开会，总开会也累啊，再喝点啤酒找个人跳跳舞，这就有了“夜总会”。后来中国的一个老板一看，这种开会形式好啊，又轻松又快乐，有利于改变会风，提高会议质量，还不占用上班时间，符合新生活运动的要求，应该广为普及，于是，祖国大地就一窝蜂似的开了“夜总会”。
